Meet Sam
What does someone need to be successful at this internship?
In order to be successful in this internship, you have to have some initiative. A majority of the sites require the intern to jump into sessions. Additionally, you receive the most out of supervision if you prepare with questions about specific sites and/or thoughts you may have in relation to developing as a clinician.
What are your career aspirations? How has your internship supported and/or influenced these goals?
I hope to work with youth and families through a trauma-informed music therapy approach. The Music Project provided me with unique opportunities to work with families on attachment as well as in a school through a trauma approach. These experiences gave me an idea of how to establish working relationships with school administrators and teachers as well as what it would look like to implement music therapy services in schools outside of a behavioral classroom.
What led you to the Snohomish County Music Project?
Attending at an affiliated university, I was incredibly lucky to learn about this organization through practicum opportunities as an undergrad student. Through those practicum experiences I was able to see the work that this organization does and it helped me determine the populations wanted to specialize in earlier so I applied to intern with them!
